Lundqvist earned his 300th NHL victory and 49th career shutout in the Rangers' 3-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
With his 30-save performance, he shut out the Red Wings for the second time this season and helped New York complete a three-game season sweep of its Original Six rival. Lundqvist is one win shy of tying Mike Richter's franchise record. He caught Rangers great Ed Giacomin for the club mark in shutouts.
"It's a great feeling to be up there with those guys," Lundqvist said after his fourth shutout this season. "This organization has been around for so long, so to be up there with them, it's very special, and I am proud just thinking about it.
"It's a lot of fun when you think about it, and I started thinking about it after two periods — why not go for the doughnut in this game and reach 300 wins? It was a good challenge for me."
Chris Kreider helped him achieve it by scoring twice in the third — the first goal coming just 14 seconds in.
"He's the best goalie in the world, best around the league, and we're lucky enough to have him on our team," Kreider said. "It's kind of his style to get a shutout for his 300th win."
Lundqvist (24-20-4) was serenaded by the crowd with chants of "Hen-rik, Hen-rik" in the game's final minute. He has won two straight, after allowing a total of 13 goals in three losses (0-2-1) following the Olympic break, and given up just two goals in the process.
He got back to his winning ways Friday at Carolina, which is also the site of the Rangers' next game Tuesday.
"He's been the face of the franchise and will continue to be," forward Brad Richards said. "He's only been in the league eight or nine years, and it seems like 30 or 40 wins each year."
STAJAN'S SON DIES
Calgary Flames center Matt Stajan has missed the team's last four games because of one of the greatest tragedies imaginable: he and his wife Katie lost their infant son, Emerson, who died after his birth on Monday.
From the Flames: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Katie and Matt at this difficult time. We appreciate that everyone has and will continue to respect their privacy during this period."
A private memorial service will take place in the ensuing days.
Stajan, 30, will be away from the Flames indefinitely.
MISSING OHL PLAYER
The Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League say 20-year-old center Terry Trafford has been missing from the team for six days.
The Saginaw News says Trafford was last seen Monday at the Dow Event Center, the team's home arena.
Team president Craig Goslin says the team is "very concerned for the young man" and hopes he's found soon.
The team released a statement on Sunday night expressing extreme concern for Trafford's whereabouts.
"The Saginaw Spirit Franchise and the entire Great Lakes Bay Region are very concerned of the whereabouts of Saginaw Spirit hockey player Terry Trafford. Terry was last seen Monday morning at 9:30am. We currently have no further comment until the professionals searching for him complete their work. The entire Spirit organization is very concerned for the young man and we hope and pray that he is safe and found soon."
The statement comes on the heels of a story in which Trafford's girlfriend told MLive he was released from the team for partying.
"He had gotten into trouble for partying on a road trip and they were sending him home for good," Skye Cieszlak, his girlrfriend, said. "He was devastated."
Cieszlak, his longterm girlfriend, said she last had contact with Trafford on Sunday, March 2 when he told her he loved her and then sent her a text that worried her.
"He texted me and told me his life was over and that he didn't want to do it anymore," she said.
