There was lots of talk about Halo: Nightfall during E3 2014, but this week is the first time fans can actually see an image from the upcoming digital series. Production on the Ridley Scott produced series has been pretty quiet, so the reveal of the lead character on set is the most exciting asset for hopeful fans to drool over until Comic-Con kicks off.

The image features the main character, Agent Locke, out of his Spartan uniform. The mysterious protagonist is played by actor Mike Colter, who may be familiar to fans of The Good Wife, The Following, or Zero Dark Thirty. Locke will not only be the point-of-focus in the digital series that acts as a bridge between Halo 4 and Halo 5, but the character will also play a key role in the plot of the upcoming numbered installment of the first-person shooter franchise.

343 Industries general Bonnie Ross spoke about Locke’s role in the franchise during the Halo presentation at E3.

With the high production value that comes along with a Ridley Scott project, Xbox wants to make sure that consumers don’t have a difficult time finding a place to purchase and watch the series. It will be available via Xbox Live (for 360 and Xbox One owners), packaged along with the Master Chief Collection, and available on Microsoft smartphones and tablets.

So far, most of the information we’ve heard or seen about Nightfall seems pretty promising. The distribution may lead to more of a barrier for entry than Xbox is hoping, but time will tell how well the series sells. The last Halo live-action series, Forward Unto Dawn, is currently available for streaming via Netflix.

Colter will be in attendance at Comic-Con next week, alongside a few other members of the Nightfall team to promote the series. The panel is scheduled for July 24 and attendees can look forward to the first reveal of Nightfall footage. Check back later this week for our coverage of the event.
