Earlier today Twitter user pokemon_tarun posed a question to fans of the series: If Game Freak were to get rid of one of the recent “gimmick” mechanics — between Gen 6’s Mega Evolution, Gen 7’s Z-Moves, Gen 8’s Dynamax, and regional variants like Galarian Slowbro — which should be wiped from existence? Clearly the Internet has spoken, and its decision to get rid of Dynamaxing is not a huge surprise given fan outcry from the removal of elements like Mega Evolution.

Removing Mega Evolution is just one of the reasons why Pokemon Sword and Shield were highly criticized leading up to their release on the Nintendo Switch last year. Another reason was the removal of the National Pokedex, thereby restricting which partners players were able to use.
Luckily the game’s two expansions, Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, will be addressing some of these concerns by allowing trainers to catch previously removed Pokemon with unique Pokedexes. However, the Dynamax phenomenon does not appear to be going anywhere despite the Internet’s lukewarm reception to it.
Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now on the Nintendo Switch.
