Smriti who came into action after a gap of nearly two months, showed little signs of discomfort finishing with two birdies on the 1st and 3rd holes, followed by an eagle on the 7th hole along with four bogeys on the 5th, 9th, 10th and 18th holes. Smriti, who looked refreshed after her long break would have easily taken the sole lead, but her mistake on the 18th cost her a shotleading to a tied first place finish with Neha Tripathi.

Kolkata professional Neha Tripathi on the other hand came to life with an improved game as the day progressed. Neha started off with three quick bogies on the 2nd, 5th and 6th holes along with four birdies on the 3rd, 7th, 9thand 13th holes. She finished her round with another bogey on the 14th hole to lead the field withSmriti Mehra after 18 holes.

Delhi girls Gauri Monga (A) and Ankita Tiwana played good golf under testing conditions to finish tied second, carding 3 over 73 after the first round’s play got over. While Gauri’s birdie-less round consisted of three bogies on the 6th, 11th and 14th holes, Ankita carded 4 bogies on the 5th, 9th, 10th, 14th holes with a lone birdie on the 7th hole.

Delhi’s Vani Kapoor had an indifferent day on the course. Her front nine were marred with errors as she carded as many as five bogies on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th holes and just one birdie on the 6th hole. Her back nine was much more controlled, with a single bogey on the 11th hole. She finished for the tied fifth position with Pune’s Shweta Galande carding identical scores of 5 over 75 after the first round. Shweta carded four bogies on the 4th, 6th, 10th and 17th holes along with a double bogey on the 8th hole and a birdie on the 6th hole.

Gursimar Badwal is placed seventh with a score of 6 over 76 while Saaniya Sharma, Pallavi Jain and Priya Puri are tied eighth at 7 over 77.
