The new event, Eternal Conflict, is Diablo-centric and brings even more characters and tropes from the Diablo series to the Blizzard all-star arena brawler. The new event introduces a new two-lane map, the Butcher as a playable character, and everyone’s favorite treasure goblin.

The servers went down for a major patch this morning and Blizzard offered the following message along with detailed patch notes…

The maintenance should be wrapped up now and players just need to download the new content (free of charge) and jump into the game. The Butcher is a melee assassin based on Diablo III boss and his arsenal of attacks reflect that grueling boss fight. Like all fighters, The Butcher will rotate between free and paid and players will need to shell out gold or real world cash if they want full access to him. There are plans to release two addition Diablo characters, the Skeleton King and the Monk, later in the event, as well.

The Diablo-themed event also follows the release of the Crusader character. There is definitely no shortage of Diablo-attractions in the brawler and the new Treasure Goblin who will roam around before the start of games and drop in-game gold will be a very fun addition for fans of the series.

Although the game takes some heat for being more watered down and simple than other MOBAs, it does have that high-quality Blizzard shine that can take it a long way. We look forward to seeing what kind of characters and locations are added from other IPs in future events. Is anyone else ready for a Molten Core map?
